PENIEL SEDE - HISTÓRIA

   The Peniel Ministry began with a prayer meeting in the back of an Evangelical Bookstore called Peniel in the city of Santos
   After successive meetings, an Evangelization team was formed with the name Peniel. Among the participants were: Laerte, Waldemar Rocha (Dema - guitar), Maria Lúcia, Doraci Santos, Regina Andrade (pianist), Vivência, Samuel Bispo, Zilda Silva.
    This was then the Peniel team. They were all young people from some lowland churches who wanted to do something more significant for the Lord than what they had been doing in their churches.
   Some time later they became part of the Baptist Church of Spiritual Renewal in São Paulo, where a desire arose to open a congregation of that church here in Baixada Santista.
   After much prayer and consecration on the part of Laerte and Dema, they were consecrated as Evangelists and now they were basically ready to open the church here in Baixada and God was with them.

   People began to gather with them. They sought God in prayer asking the Lord for capacity and conditions to open and implement the Renovated Baptist Movement in Baixada Santista, and shortly after, on 11/22/74, on Av. Cap. Mór Aguiar in São Vicente, the Renovated Baptist Congregation was inaugurated.
   The work progressed with many difficulties, they had to change location many times, due to the lack of conditions to pay the rent, as the majority of members were unemployed teenagers and young people. But God was present and victory was certain.
   On August 15, 1976, after communicating the church in São Paulo, an Assembly was held with 38 adult members and the PENIEL BAPTIST CHURCH was organized. On October 9th of the same year, Evangelist Laerte was consecrated as Pastor, therefore being the first pastor of the PENIEL MINISTRY. After many changes of address, the Church was established in the neighborhood of Catiapoã in São Vicente, in the place where Creche Peniel currently operates. . There the Lord gave rest to his people and we began to grow. Pr. Laerte was called to take over a church in Vitória – ES and handed over the direction of the work to a young man called Newton Glória Lobato Filho, who, working according to the guidance of the Lord, managed to lead the PENIEL BAPTIST CHURCH to the conditions we find today. Pr Newton began leading the Church in 1981 and in 1984 he was ordained pastor by the CBN – National Baptist Convention of which we have been part since then.
   The Peniel Baptist Church with the 85 congregations form the PENIEL MINISTRY which is presided over by Pr. Newton Glória Lobato Filho, together with the Council of Pastors composed of the following pastors: Joel Pedro da Silva Júnior, Wilton Santos Silva, Marcos Orichowski, Ariston Ribeiro, Roberto Carlos, Edson Silva and Antônio Carlos Silva Nascimento.
